Battlefield 6's Relaxed Playlist Sparks Heated Debates Over AI Players, Experience Points, and Wait Times

Recently, the game developers introduced a fresh playlist called Relaxed Breakthrough. In essence, this mode resembles the regular Breakthrough setup but features a few key changes:

  • Every squad includes just 8 human participants, with the remaining made up of AI-controlled opponents.
  • Actions done by real players grant full XP, while bot actions provide lower rewards.
  • Only two maps can be played: Cairo Siege and Empire State map.
  • Elements like Dogtags, achievements, and stat tracking have been turned off.

So essentially, the playlist delivers on its name: it's a casual version of Breakthrough. On the surface, one could assume there's nothing wrong, as it gives more options for players looking for alternative ways to enjoy the title. However, gaming history have taught us anything, it is that you can't please everyone. In other words, a lot of BF6 fans are mad.

Community Reactions: Anger to Support

"People want human opponents. Avoid making the mistakes of your rivals," states a response to the mode reveal. "Absolutely shocking idea," says another. Meanwhile, on the Battlefield subreddit, one user remarks, "I have no idea where we are going with this game," and someone else details all the issues they believe to be broken in the game: "Fix bugs, address drone issues, fix IVF rockets, fix [the] bloom after sprinting bug, improve hit detection. We don't need this AI-heavy playlist."

On the other hand, for every complaint, some gamers explaining how much they're enjoying the recent addition. "It's enjoyable to practice, real players keep it from being a total farmfest but it's very relaxed," says a forum post. "The community doesn't understand that there are gamers who actually go outside and don't play this title 24/7. Allow them to strike a balance," adds a different comment. One reply on Twitter clarifies that as they're "a parent gamer with limited time, this is perfect for me," while someone else applauds the mode for "not being overcompetitive."

Constructive Criticisms and Community Input

Despite the support, players have constructive reasons to complain about Casual Breakthrough. A few folks have pointed out that it will make queue times even longer for different playlists due to the large amount of playlists currently available. On a similar note, some areas often face mostly bots in the current modes. Additionally, it appears a little backwards that the mode does not begin without a minimum number of real players, despite it primarily centers on fighting AI opponents.

Lastly, one of the biggest grievances is that Battlefield Portal was meant to provide complete rewards, including AI matches, but that was removed when they attempted to remove XP farming from the mode. So Casual Breakthrough feels like the community meeting them in the middle, as per a Reddit comment. A different user labels this mode as the developers "dropping the ball so hard, I had great enjoyment in the initial release, what prompted them to adjust it?"

Looking Ahead: Adjustments Occur?

Should Battlefield Studios has proven anything to date with the latest installment, it's that they're paying attention and responding to feedback. Tasks that were overly hard got fixed rapidly, as did the required Redsec challenges. It is likely that, if their data shows this recent mode isn't performing to their standards, they won't be shy to make further modifications.
