Police stated they were notified by a resident who found a automobile in Hanau marked with reddish liquid

Around 50 cars have been smeared with what appears to be human blood in the Germany's city of Hanau near Frankfurt, according to police.

Automobiles, exterior walls and mailboxes were defaced, occasionally with swastikas, they reported in a statement.

Law enforcement say they were alerted in the late hours on Wednesday evening, when a man discovered that a car in the Lamboy neighborhood of Hanau had been smeared with a reddish substance.

The fluid had been drawn in the pattern of a swastika, they reported.

Law enforcement then discovered multiple other vandalized cars and house walls in the adjacent neighborhood.

These symbols are illegal in Germany under laws banning the public display of Nazi-era symbols.

Law enforcement report early analysis suggest the liquid was probably human bodily fluid.

"There is still no indication as to its source; authorities are presently not cognizant of any injuries in relation with the occurrence," they stated.

Municipal representatives stated they were attempting "to unravel the case" and have requested to the community for information.

A senior official said the incident left him speechless and had to be resolved quickly.

"This event hits the center of Hanau and revives the wounds of the extremist violent incident half a decade ago," he posted on a platform, mentioning the killing of nine individuals by a shooter targeting individuals of foreign heritage in 2020.
