England's Bowling Consultant Southee Unsure on The Ashes Participation

Tim Southee

Tim Southee's most recent Test match for the Kiwis was against the English side in the final month of 2024.

England fast-bowling advisor Southee is currently evaluating the extent of his role will be during the upcoming Ashes contest in the host nation.

The former Kiwi pace bowler is expected to be available for the first Test due to his involvement in the ILT20 competition, which starts on 2 December in the United Arab Emirates.

Southee, aged 36, took up a position as England's pace bowling advisor in the warmer months after claiming 391 wickets in 107 Tests for the Kiwis.

Speaking as England's team for the first of three T20 matches against New Zealand was announced, Southee said of his participation: "We are still evaluating the situation at the moment.

"We'll see what happens over the coming days."

England bowling legend Broad had declared the Australia team as their "worst team since 2010", but the consultant was in little doubt over the anticipated challenge during the contest, which begins on November 21.

"I don't think there's at any time a poor Aussie side," he said.

"Our focus is firmly on what we're trying to do. I think the quality of [England's] side that's heading out to Australia is excellent.

"It ought to be an absolute cracker, the Ashes. Not only [are|do] fans from both nations eagerly anticipate it, I believe the whole cricket world is."

But, prior to England travel to the city of Perth for the opening Ashes Test, they take on the Kiwis in Christchurch on this Saturday.
