Los Angeles Faces Record-Breaking High Temperatures Only Days Following Severe Winter Storm.
Following a week of significant rainfall that caused flooding across parts of the city, the City of Angels is now seeing unusually hot temperatures for this time of year.
All-Time High Heat
On Friday midday, the temperature climbed to 91°F (33°C) in downtown Los Angeles, according to the National Weather Service. This easily surpasses the previous daily record for this date, which was eighty-eight degrees Fahrenheit and was established in the previous year.
"Unusually high temperatures" were noted on official charts for the region.
Safety Advisories
The weather service stated that Friday's conditions posed an "higher threat for heat illness" for people sensitive to heat. Their guidance suggested:
- Keeping well-hydrated.
- Reducing outdoor activities during the peak heat of the day.
- Never leaving kids or animals unattended in a parked vehicle.
An Extreme Reversal
This dramatic increase in mercury arrives just after a powerful winter storm that pummeled the area last week. That event unleashed high winds, thunderstorms, and significant snowfall to mountainous regions, causing mudslide risks for many residents.

Temperatures Easing
The outlook suggests cooler conditions is coming. Readings were forecast to fall to around 61°F (16°C) in central Los Angeles by Friday night.
Additional areas that reached 90°F included Burbank, Woodland Hills, and Long Beach. Meanwhile, Santa Maria, Oxnard, Camarillo, and Westwood were projected to see the high 80s.
In the coming days, downtown LA can expect readings in the 80s, with a further cooldown expected for the week ahead.
