Manchester United Set to Sign Germany Forward Lea Schüller from the Bavarian Giants
Manchester United are on the verge of sealing the deal for prolific Germany forward Lea Schüller on a permanent transfer from the Frauen-Bundesliga champions.
A Marquee Acquisition for United
Schüller, who has six months remaining on her deal, has been a consistent goalscorer for her club and the national team. She has netted over 100 goals for Bayern and scored 54 times in 82 appearances for her country. This signing will be seen as a major coup for the WSL team.
Her exit from Munich has been anticipated after she appeared to be holding back emotions while thanking the club's fans after a victory over Bayer Leverkusen recently.
It was reported in December that the Frauen-Bundesliga was set to lose one of its leading forwards. According to multiple sources, the formalities for the transfer are now finalised.
Reliable Goal Threat to Strengthen the Attack
The 28-year-old’s arrival is expected to provide a significant boost to the team's forward line. Schüller has been remarkably consistent with her finishing in the Bundesliga.
- For seven straight seasons, up to and including the last term, she achieved at least a double-digit tally of league goals.
- She won the top scorer award in 2021-22 season with a haul of 16 goals.
Gathering Steam at Carrington
Securing the German international coincides with a period when United appear to be building momentum.
Recent performances include qualifying for the European knockout phase playoffs as a seeded team and a victory in the League Cup quarter-finals.
Off the pitch, the winter break has brought additional business:
- The acquisition of Swedish defender Hanna Lundkvist on a multi-year deal.
- The contract extension for Japanese playmaker Hinata Miyazawa, who has become popular figure since arriving in 2023.
Regarding Miyazawa’s extension, a club official stated: “She has become a vital part to the way we play. Her footballing intelligence and technical ability allows her and the team to dominate play from central areas.”
The new defender, having arrived from a side from the NWSL, said: “You can feel how much the club have grown in the last few years, competing in one of the strongest leagues in the world and now featuring in the top European competition.”
