Nearly 25,000 households in Queensland's southeast woke up experiencing outages on Monday morning after intense storm systems swept through the area, producing powerful gusts hitting 109km/h.

Massive Frozen Precipitation and Broad Damage

Homeowners reported large ice chunks reaching sizes of seven centimeters in some areas. The Bureau of Meteorology verified that various areas across Queensland had been hit with substantial ice precipitation.

Emergency crews were attempting to repair electricity service throughout the affected regions, with nearly 70 crews deployed to address the widespread outages.

Victoria's Storm Challenges

Meanwhile, around 1,000 energy customers in the southern state also faced energy failures after Melbourne recorded its wettest day in over 500 days.

Rescue organizations received nearly 600 emergency reports across the state, mainly for property damage but also for fallen timber and flooding.

During the peak on yesterday, more than 28,000 power users in Victoria were without power.

Weather Forecast

Damp conditions were expected to linger along large portions of eastern Queensland this week as a weather pattern continued to pull in damp air against the coast.

Tuesday was expected to become the wettest day, with continued severe weather risk predicted across various areas of both regions.

Health Warning

Health officials alerted that there was an greater possibility of epidemic thunderstorm asthma across the countryside regions, particularly given the current weather patterns.

This warning comes after previous incidents where similar conditions led to substantial respiratory problems in the area.
