Paceman Gus Atkinson Compounds the English team's Injury Worries.

'Major setback' for the English camp as Atkinson goes off due to a hamstring issue.

Gus Atkinson further complicated England's injury problems when he left the playing area on the second morning of the fourth Ashes Test against Australia.

The right-arm seamer experienced discomfort in his left hamstring immediately following a delivery that he bowled on Saturday.

The touring camp reported the 27-year-old felt some "soreness" and required time away from the action for further assessment "in the coming hours".

The series decider of the series in Sydney gets underway on Sunday, 4 January.

The English side has previously lost strike bowlers one seamer to a knee injury and Jofra Archer with an abdominal strain during this series.

A replacement bowler was called up to provide backup.

Atkinson struggled during the first two matches, claiming a mere a handful of scalps.

He was left out from the previous Test, only to be brought back for the fourth Test as Archer's replacement.

The county bowler performed better in the fourth Test, claiming a couple of wickets during the host's first knock, before adding 28 with the bat as one of just three England players who passed ten runs.

Following a brief spell at the end of day one, he resumed the next day and removed Scott Boland taken by the wicketkeeper.

Unfortunately, on the final ball of his spell, he bowled a variation to the batsman and immediately felt at his leg.

The English bowler returned to the side for the Boxing Day Test after being left out the Adelaide game.
