A man who contaminated candy with sedative and provided them to minors at a youth camp in the area has admitted sexual crimes against two boys both nine and ten years old.
The defendant was taken into custody after eight children and an older person became sick at Stathern Lodge in the summer month.
The senior citizen, from the Nottinghamshire area, admitted guilt to a series of 17 offences when he was present at Leicester Crown Court on the end of the week.
However, he refused to admit one of the sexual offences he was facing, which was concerning a nine-year-old boy.
Ruben was remanded in custody prior to a additional proceeding on 28 November.
'Sweet game'
The legal representative, presenting evidence, outlined the criminal behavior to the legal proceedings.
She stated his victims were under-privileged children who were participating in a summer program which he operated.
The defendant played a "sweet game" with the minors, the prosecutor stated, in which he would enter the sleeping quarters when they were getting ready for bed and tell them to ingest treats "rapidly".
She informed the proceedings Ruben had conducted this practice with the boys "for many years", and children had previously fallen ill the next day.
She stated the man had been able to explain this over a long period as the minors being "overwrought by enjoyment", until his stepson had worries in summer 2025.
The prosecutor continued: "This year his family member had concerns about the situation, for good reason.
"They decided to examine in the defendant's belongings."
The prosecutor explained materials including baby oil, ointment and injection devices were discovered, and his family member alerted the police about his worries.
She explained the defendant went on to engage in the "sweet game" with six children that time - July 26th - and they were all ill the following morning.
"The police had not arrived by that stage," she continued.
The police watchdog, the police conduct office, earlier informed that it was examining the police response of the incident.
The legal representative said the children were struggling to walk due to being ill, so Ruben's stepson called the law enforcement a second time.
She explained Ruben then played the "treat game" in a room of five youngsters.
