Person Who Reached For Ariana Grande during Film Launch Prohibited from Singapore
An individual of Australian nationality who jumped over a barricade and reached for celebrity Ariana Grande has been expelled and barred from Singapore.
Johnson Wen, aged 26, was sentenced to over a week in jail for causing a public disturbance and has now been "banned from entering the country again," the country's border control told Singaporean press.
Wen pushed through camera crews and charged at the performer and artist, who was present at the regional launch for the film on the thirteenth of November. Co-performer Cynthia Erivo intervened to remove him from Grande.
The individual has a record of causing disturbances at events and high-profile gatherings, including jumping on stage at a Katy Perry performance in Sydney in the past June.
The event sparked outrage in Singapore, with numerous people saying he of causing further distress to the star.
The celebrity has spoken of experiencing trauma-related anxiety after a suicide bomb attack at her performance in the UK city in spring of 2017 killed 22 people and injured hundreds.
In the legal process, the authorities learned he had made efforts to breach on the film's premiere multiple times, according to Singaporean media.
He then made a second attempt to breach security. Security staff prevented him and held him in place.
The man subsequently shared video clips expressing gratitude to the star for letting him on the carpet and said he was "released."
Law enforcement took him into custody the following day and charged him with public nuisance, to which he confessed.
The District Judge the judicial official was quoted by Channel News Asia as saying that Wen was "attention seeking", adding that he was incorrect to assume he would not face any penalties.
The actress has not addressed the case.
The co-star spoke about the event to NBC, stating that she "simply desired to verify my friend was protected."
"I think he didn't mean us injury, but you never know with those things, and I sought to confirm that she was alright. That was my first instinct," she stated.
