President Trump Welcomes Families of Attacked National Guard Personnel to the White House
Former President Donald Trump announced on the weekend that he has invited the relatives of a Guard member killed last week to visit the White House.
He noted that he conversed with her parents and they were “deeply grieving”.
Background on the Devastating Event
Soldier Beckstrom, twenty years old, was killed in a shooting on Wednesday in DC.
Her comrade, Andrew Wolfe, 24, is still in the hospital in grave state.
Vigils across West Virginia have taken place in their remembrance.
Presidential Call
The commander-in-chief stated he’s proposed a visit to the White House for the parents of both individuals of the state Guard.
“I said: ‘When you’re able, because that’s a hard experience, visit the White House. We’re going to pay tribute to her,” the president addressed reporters. “And in the same way with Andrew, whether he recovers or not.”
Community Support
Attendees came together over the weekend at a local school in West Virginia to pay respects to Beckstrom.
Both they had been working with the West Virginia National Guard as part of Trump’s national effort to support law enforcement in the capital.
Honoring Sarah Beckstrom
“She was the individual that instructors hoped for. She carried herself with quiet strength, a bright grin and a positive energy that lifted those around her,” the principal, the leader of Beckstrom’s former high school, informed the Associated Press. “She was kind, considerate and always ready to support those in need.”
Memorial plans for Sarah are still being arranged.
Legal Actions and Policy Changes
Law enforcement have charged a 29-year-old individual from Afghanistan with a charge of murder and charges of assault with intent to kill while carrying a weapon.
The tragedy caused the Trump administration to pause refugee claims and temporarily stop providing visas to holders of travel documents.
Condition of Wolfe
Andrew Wolfe, a resident of the city, started his military career in 2019 and is a 2019 graduate of Musselman high school, per the AP.
He is still undergoing care and is “in a critical fight”, the state’s leader Patrick Morrisey said on a news program.
Attorney general the attorney general told the program that she planned to speak to his relatives.
Impact of the Fallen Soldier
Beckstrom, from Summersville, completed her education from Webster County high school in mid-2023 and began her service not long after, serving as a MP with honor, as stated by the state guard.
“She had a lot of kindness and she certainly had bravery,” Morrisey addressed the audience at the vigil. “Though her time ended too soon, she has created a legacy that’s going to last forever.”
