The British government is set to progress with utilizing the entire amount of frozen Russian holdings to aid Ukraine's war effort, Leader Sir Keir Starmer has announced.

In a collective announcement, the heads of state of the UK, France, and the Federal Republic of Germany asserted that this unified step would heighten pressure on Russia's leader Vladimir Putin and persuade Russia to engage in negotiations.

They clarified that the move would be carried out in strong partnership with the US.

British sanctions have immobilized over £25bn of Russian assets since Russia launched its full-scale invasion against Ukraine in 2022. However, previously, money provided to the Ukrainian government using Russia's holdings had solely been taken from gains and dividends accrued on them.

Sir Keir told President Volodymyr Zelensky that the UK, France, and Germany were aligned in their aim to push forward toward using the full value of the seized Russian sovereign holdings to halt hostilities.

He stated that additional sanctions in the coming days and weeks would heighten the tension on Russia.

This statement follows European Union representatives convened in Copenhagen last week to discuss employing frozen Russian funds for a 140-billion-euro credit to Ukraine.
